Harvey Balzer spent most of his life in education as a teacher, principal, superintendent and secretary of the board. But after being inspired by his firefighter sons Ron and Gary, he, too, became a firefighter at Twin Hills Volunteer Fire District. In his spare time, he enjoyed the traveling, camping and woodworking. He suffered a fatal heart attack two weeks after battling a residential arson fire and a large fire involving a gas tanker.
